Wedge Card is a new way to get discounts/savings and special offers from hundreds of local shops and independent businesses. We aim to re-vitalise local communities by offering a reward to customers choosing to shop locally. We launched in Central London in December 2006 and will be spreading across the UK in the months to come. Wedge is the little man. The local independent shopkeeper and all the locals who love the fact that their High Street hasn't fallen prey to the large multinational large chain, turning it well into well, a faceless, desensitized "brand only" environment. At Wedge we know that individually we might be small, but when we all come together, we're rather big and tall and our bite is just as big as our bark. Together we can help keep our local High Street local and independent. So join us today and let's keep all that's good and independent about your high street.

What are the benefits?

Wedge benefits you (the shopper), the independent shopkeeper and ultimately your High Street and Community. For you, you will find all kinds of savings/discounts and special offers across participating shops. The shopkeeper benefits because you are encouraged to shop locally and therefore, with them. Your High Street benefits from the thriving trade helped by you shopping locally, thus staving off the large chain stores that are making our High Streets all over Britain, faceless. Your community benefits from the physical connections made by people and by more money being spent and retained in the local economy.

Signing up

When you sign-up for your Wedge Card, there is a £10 signing on fee, £5 of which goes to a local charity. The other £5 helps Wedge administer the set-up of your card and ultimately helps us strengthen the community further. Your card will be valid for a year, a small price to pay for such a great range of offers. Most members find that they recoup the initial cost in just a few weeks.

Where can I use my Wedge Card?

The network of businesses is growing all the time. Use our database to find out which businesses accept Wedge in your area. You will find that a whole range of independent businesses have signed up to the scheme, from fruit and veg stalls, clothes shops to bicycle repairs and gift shops. All you have to do is have your Wedge Card at the ready to present when you come to pay.

Where can I purchase a card?

Wedge Traders will be selling the card in their shops, but you can buy a card online right now by clicking the button below or phone 020 7401 3913 and join us in helping to keep your high street independent.

Who is behind Wedge Card?

It was the brainchild of John Bird, Founder and Editor-in-Chief of The Big Issue, and Diana Bird, his daughter. Read more about them here.
